Our Handmade Process

Every piece is crafted with dedication, skill, and attention to detail

01

Inspiration & Design

Ideas come from everywhere—the curve of a leaf, the pattern of shadows on a wall, the texture of aged wood. We sketch constantly, filling notebooks with concepts that might become our next piece.

Design isn't just about aesthetics. We consider how a piece will interact with its environment. How will light move across it? How will it feel to touch? Will it age gracefully? These questions guide every design decision.

We create multiple prototypes, testing proportions and techniques. Some designs work immediately. Others require refinement. We're patient with this process because rushing leads to compromises we're not willing to make.

02

Material Selection

Materials speak to us. A piece of reclaimed oak might suggest a geometric sculpture. A bundle of cotton cord might become flowing macrame. We listen to what the materials want to become.

We source carefully. Our cotton comes from farms that prioritize soil health. Our wood is salvaged from structures being demolished—we're giving it a second life. Our clay is mixed by a ceramicist who's been perfecting their formula for twenty years.

Quality is non-negotiable. We inspect every material personally. If it doesn't meet our standards, we don't use it. Simple as that.

03

Handcrafting

This is where time disappears. Hours pass in focused creation. For macrame, it's the rhythm of knotting—over, under, through, tighten. For wood, it's the careful removal of material, revealing the form hidden inside. For ceramics, it's the dance between control and surrender as clay spins on the wheel.

We work without rushing. A macrame piece might take 12 hours of continuous knotting. A wood sculpture could require days of carving and sanding. Ceramic work involves multiple stages—throwing, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, final firing. Each stage demands patience.

Mistakes happen. When they do, we don't try to hide them. Sometimes we start over. Sometimes the "mistake" becomes the piece's most interesting feature. Handmade means human, and humans aren't perfect. That's the beauty of it.

04

Finishing Touches

The final stage is about refinement. For wood pieces, we apply natural oils that protect while enhancing the grain. For textiles, we trim and shape until every line is intentional. For ceramics, we inspect the glaze, feeling for any rough spots that need smoothing.

We add hanging hardware that's as thoughtfully chosen as the piece itself. Everything should work seamlessly—beautiful and functional.

Before a piece leaves our studio, it undergoes final inspection. We look at it with fresh eyes, checking for anything that doesn't meet our standards. Only when we'd be proud to hang it in our own homes does it go to yours.

Why Handmade Matters

In a world of mass production, handmade objects are acts of resistance. They reject the idea that everything should be identical, efficient, optimized. They embrace the human element—the slight variations, the evidence of hands at work, the time invested.

When you choose handmade, you're choosing to support a different way of making. You're valuing skill over speed, quality over quantity, authenticity over replication. You're investing in something that will age with character rather than become disposable.

Our pieces aren't perfect in the manufactured sense. They're perfect in the way that handmade things are—full of life, full of story, full of the person who made them.
